My version of “Stones” isn’t “Stones” in the strict sense.
I started off by recording a set of tuning forks and their resonances on a number of stones and bricks.
After a while this seemed a nice background (it’s still there in the track).
I tapped a few rhythms on the stones and I decided to imitate them with the lamellophones, then replace them by these.
And then it seemed natural to add a little pipa-style bouzouki and hammered zither.
Blind overdub and no post-production.
So it is not “Stones”. And then again, it is, because in my opinion, what the composition is about is: look around you, see what you can use in order to make sound, make a sound you like, and be happy with it...
