Date of Recording: 22th February 2017,
Hamburg
I used ten granite stones in different
sizes which I brought with me from
Calabria, Italy.
I found the stones on the beach, where
the sea rolled them over with each
wave, creating a very beautiful, deep,
mumbling sound, forming them into a
very round shape.
First I chose the sound material. I decided
to use three different sounds or
actions:
1. I laid them on the wooden floor of my
apartment and tap them shortly with
my fingers so they start to seesaw.
2. I rubbed two stones against each
other with my hands.
3. I knocked two stones against each other
with my hands.
I played four versions or tracks in different
rooms of my apartment and overlaid
them. Three versions were played in one
flow, in a more or less free form. For the
fourth version
I recorded the three sound actions one
after a other in a very dry setting directly
in front of my microfones. I added this
parts to the tracks without composing
too much, so that there is still some indeterminacy.
I haven’t broken anything.
